Court Decides On Use Of Card Readers

Prof Attahiru Jega, INEC chairman

Justice Ademola Adeniyi of the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled against issuing such an order, Vanguard reports.

Thus, the application filed by Walihu Taiwo, the Peoples Democratic Party senatorial candidate in Ogun state, was aborted.

However, the INEC and the Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke, were summoned to appear before the court on April 24 to comment on the legality or otherwise of the use of the card readers for a general election.

The court stressed that if if eventually decides that the use of the card readers was illegal and unconstitutional, it will not ‎hesitate to annul the polls results.

Meanwhile Attahiru Jega, the INEC chairman, speaking about the actively discussed issue, insisted that those against the smart device, simply feared that their fraudulent conduct would be detected.
