Electoral body to recruit 325 ad hoc staff for Assembly bye-election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Sokoto State, is to recruit 325 ad hoc staff for the state House of Assembly bye-election for Tureta constituency fixed for August 20.
This information is contained in a statement signed by Mallam Muhammad Musa, the INEC Head of Voter Education, on Friday, in Sokoto.
The statement said that the bye-election had become necessary, following the vacancy created by the resignation of the former member representing the constituency, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar.
It said: ''The state constituency has 32,384 registered voters,
10 wards, 67 polling units and nine voting points.
``No fewer than 325 ad hoc staff will be recruited, especially from serving members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), who will be trained and deployed in the exercise,’’ he said.
The statement also advised political parties wishing to participate in the election to conduct primary elections for the emergence of their flag bearers.
According to the statement, this is in accordance with the provisions of the constitution and the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended).
``The intending voters are also advised to come along with their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) on the election day.
``Only those with the permanent voter cards will be allowed to cast their votes,’’ he said.
NAN recalls that Abubakar, the immediate House Leader in the Assembly, resigned on January 12.
He contested and won the chairmanship position of Tureta Local Government under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
