A Nigerian military general receives N20.69 m annually - Report


A new report on the take home pay of military officials have been released. The report compiled by the Economic Intelligence, a financial magazine shows that the annual salary of an army general, an admiral in the navy and an air chief marshal in the Nigerian air force is penned at N20,691,400 million annually. The trio, who hold executive positions as the chief of defence staff and are also referred to as four star generals receive a monthly salary of N1.72 million, the report on consolidated armed forces salary structure (CONAFSS)

The saying ‘one man’s junk is another man’s treasure’ reads true in the case of these men who have managed to eke out a living through scavenging. Organisation urges Nigerians to donate blood to save lives


The Red Cross Society of Nigeria, Gombe State chapter, has urged the public to donate blood to save lives during emergency.
Malam Abubakar Yakubu, Secretary of the society, made the plea on Friday, October 7, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe.
Yakubu said, “Sometimes, we experience shortage in the blood bank and when such incident occurs, there is need to restock to save lives.

court denies prosecutor appeal on Zuma graft charges


South Africa's Constitutional Court has told the state prosecutor it cannot appeal a ruling to reinstate corruption charges against President Jacob Zuma, another setback for the embattled leader.
The High Court in April ordered a review of a National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) decision to set aside hundreds of corruption charges against Zuma, calling it "irrational". That decision allowed Zuma to run for president in 2009.

UN body tells Arab nation to end child stoning, executions (Can't Stand The Heat)


A UN human rights watchdog On Friday called on Saudi Arabia to end “severe” discrimination against girls.
The body also urged the country to repeal laws that allow stoning, amputation, flogging and execution of children.
Bandar Bin Mohammed, Chairman of the Saudi Human Rights Commission, said that the committee on the Rights of the Child condemned the Saudi-led coalition’s air strikes in Yemen.

DSS harass Governor while trying to arrest Judge


Governor Nyesom Wike was harassed by Department of State Services (DSS) operatives who were carrying out an operation in the early hours of Saturday, October 8, 2016, reports say.
According to Punch, Wike had rushed to the house of a Federal High Court judge to stop his alleged arrest by the DSS officers.
