ICC To Probe South Africa's President, Zulu King for The Xenophobic Attack

Following a petition from the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has decided to probe the xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and other African citizens in South Africa Vanguard reports.........

SERAP had in a petition dated 23 April 2015 and sent to the Court requested the Prosecutor Mrs. Fatou Bensouda to use her “good offices and position to investigate allegations of hate speech by the Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini, which has resulted in killing, violence and discrimination against Nigerians and other African citizens living in South Africa, as well as the complicity/negligence of the country’s law enforcement agencies to prevent these crimes against civilian population.”

The ICC responded in a letter dated 28 April 2015, and signed by M.P. Dillon, Head of Information & Evidence Unit of the Office of the Prosecutor said, “The Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court acknowledges receipt of your documents. This communication has been duly entered in the Communications Register of the Office. We will give consideration to this communication, as appropriate, in accordance with the provisions of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. As soon as a decision is reached, we will inform you, in writing, and provide you with reasons for this decision.”.

SERAP in its petition had urged Mrs Bensouda to “bring to justice anyone who is responsible for these international crimes prohibited under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.”

SERAP also said that it “considers the use of speech by the Zulu King to promote hatred and/or incite violence against non-nationals such as Nigerians, particularly in the media as a clear violation of the provisions of the Rome Statute of International Criminal Court.........

“Grave statements by political leaders/prominent people that express discrimination and cause violence against non-nationals cannot be justified under any law. This hate speech generated fear and hatred that created the conditions for violence and discrimination against Nigerians and other African citizens. SERAP believes that this has given rise to individual criminal responsibility under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court,” the organisation said.

The organisation argued that, “the statement by the Zulu King amounts to a harmful form of expression which incites or otherwise promotes hatred, discrimination, violence and intolerance. We are seriously concerned that crimes against humanity are often accompanied or preceded by the kind of statement made by the Zulu King.”

Meanwhile a South African politician, Makashule Gana, revealed that the reason South Africans were attacking Nigerians and other immigrants is because they are snatching their girlfriends.

Maybe I should attempt to open our eyes just a little to what is actually going on: 'Buhari bans AIT from covering his activities'. This is nothing for you to rejoice about that AIT sponsored hate campaign and so it's a good response. No! It isn't. It is just a true reflection of the 1984 hatred for critics and the press. Death Toll In Nepal Massive Earthquake Rises Above 1,000 (Disturbing Photos)

The death toll in the powerful earthquake that struck Nepal and sent tremors through northern India on Saturday has risen above 1,000.

How Much Nigeria Lost In South Africa Xenophobic Attacks

Ambassador Uche Ajulu-Okeke, the Nigerian Consul-General in South Africa, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, said Nigerians living in South Africa have lost more than N21m since the xenophobic attacks started.

Ambassador said: “Nigerians have compiled damages to their property and it is totalling about 1.2 million Rand or N21 million, which will be sent to the Federal Government for further action.”

Okeke added that in Durban, two of the three Nigerians who were injured during attacks had been treated and discharged from the hospital..

“The Nigerian mission in South Africa is on top of the situation. We are working hard to protect Nigerians in South Africa.

“Though, the task has not been easy, we are trying our best. In one of the hot spots at Jeppe, near Johannesburg, the mission assisted about 50 stranded Nigerians to re-settle.

“I have also visited the site of the attacks in Johannesburg to assess the damage and it was enormous,” envoy said.

According to the ambassador the Nigerian mission would meet with all Nigerian Union chapters in the nine provinces of South Africa to find approaches on how to stop the attacks.

“I am bringing all Nigerians together so that we work out a vigilance and alert mechanism; they will also tell me what their challenges and issues are,” she said.

Okeke said the mission and the Nigerian Union had been working affectionately to meet the problems caused by the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians

Meanwhile, Ikechukwu Anyene, the President of the Nigerian Union, said that the 50 Nigerians were displaced at Jeppes Town, near Johannesburg.

“We met about 300 Nigerians in Jeppes town, near Johannesburg, who fled for their safety and about 50 of them do not have any place to stay. We are making arrangements with the Nigerian mission in South Africa to get them a place to stay for their safety.

“The Nigerian union has also presented relief materials to those affected by the attacks and we are in touch with various branches of the union in the provinces on their safety and security,” he added.

Anyene said Nigerian shops and businesses in Durban and Johannesburg had been looted and some burnt. He said two shops belonging to Nigerians in Durban were looted and they lost goods worth 400,000 Rand.

The minister of home affairs says that more than 300 people have been imprisoned in South Africa in linking with a wave of violence against immigrants.

Malusi Gigaba released a warning to those responsible, saying that they would be topic to “the full might of the law”.

It should be noted that Martins Cobham, acting High Commissioner of Nigeria to South Africa, said that removal of Nigerians from the country was not an option for now

He said the situation was being checked on lower, middle and high threat and stressed the need for Nigerians in the country to evade areas of looming threat, abide by the laws of the host country and cooperate with local security officials.

In the past two weeks, shops and homes owned by Somalis, Ethiopians, Malawians and other immigrants in Durban and surrounding townships have been targeted, forcing families to flee to camps protected by armed guards.

The Nigerian President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has recently said he is in full support of the steps taken so far by the Nigerian government in its efforts to protect the country’s citizens from the wave of xenophobic attack.

Nigerian Lawyers can no longer speak GOOD English

Apparently, Nigerian Lawyers don’t speak good English anymore and it is so embarrassing that Justice Ishaq Bello, acting Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, is advocating for continuous English education for them.

At the launch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) stamp and affinity products on Wednesday, Bello said that it was becoming rather irritating for lawyers to appear before a judge and continuously mix up their tenses in trying to present their cases.
He observed that the declining standard of lawyers could be noticed in the quality of legal practice, where a lawyer stands from the bar saying “I didn’t did it” or “I saw them passes”.
He urged the leadership of the NBA to do more to further encourage the continued education of lawyers, saying the trend was becoming quite irritating.
“All lawyers must go through what is called Language Usage Course (LUC); all lawyers must be exposed to the dynamics of global evolving legal landscape,” he said.

A thought provoking message from TB Joshua!

"The LORD is not so much interested in how many times you go to church, pray and fast a day, how much Christian service you render, the amount of tithes and offerings you pay, the Christian titles and names you bear - as the number of people's lives you have affected. Many people are suffering out there; they want to change but do not just know how to go about it.

The Major Reason Why Married Women Cheat: Must Read

It has become a deafening lamentation of sorts from the menfolk, on the rising infidelity amongst ‘married women’. Some men even claimed that the women have toppled their male counterparts in the game of ‘cheating’.

I have been studying the issue for some time and what I detect as the root cause of rising infidelity amongst the married women in this society is ‘suppressed emotions’. Our men have carried their ‘it is a man’s world’ mentality too far. It has become an implied ‘you had be playing with fire’ (in this environment) not tolerate a man’s ‘marital excesses’ as a woman.

Women have been made to endure all sorts in the name of ‘staying married’ or risk being judged by the society and our men seem to be cashing in on this-as evidenced by the gross infidelity, economic irresponsibility, emotional and physical abuse(on the part of the men), which pervade most marriages.

In Libya Over 400 fleeing immigrants feared drowned in the Mediterranean

No fewer than 400 immigrants are feared drowned after their boat capsized off Libya, BBC reports.

Survivors say that the tragic episode happened after the boat, which was carrying about 550 migrants in total, overturned a day after leaving Libya....

Nine bodies have already been recovered, but no more survivors have been found since then.

144 people were reportedly rescued from the capsized boat on Monday by the Italian coast guard, many of whom international children's' rights NGO, Save The Children has said were "young men, probably minors".

Air and sea search operation were also launched in hopes of saving others.

Hundreds more migrants rescued from boats in the Mediterranean are due to arrive in Sicily during the day, even as Italy's interior ministry has instructed officials throughout the country to be prepared to house the new arrivals, many of whom are children.

Over 8,000 migrants have been picked up since Friday, and more boats are heading for the Italian coast.

According to Save The Children spokesman, Michele Prosperi, the migration season has just started and "when the weather improves... we may have many more arrivals".

Officials say 170,000 migrants crossed the Mediterranean to Italy last year and as many as 3,500 died while making the journey.

Meanwhile amid growing concerns that their rescue missions were encouraging migrant crossings, the Italian government scaled back on its maritime rescue operation and a more limited EU border security operation took over.

Also, since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, Libya has been without a stable government allowing trafficking networks to thrive.
